Spiked (Lemonade)

Spiked (Lemonade) (also known in Canada as Extra (Lemonade)) was a Mountain Dew flavor. It was a non-alcoholic lemonade flavored soda described as being "Spiked" with thirst quenching prickly pear cactus juice. Similar to the Label, Kickstart and Mountain Dew Energy flavors, it was available in 16 ounce cans. It was later released at participating Taco Bell restaurants in the United States, where it replaced Sangrita Blast in the fountain. Spiked (Lemonade) was in turn replaced by Diet Baja Blast (now known as Baja Blast Zero Sugar) in 2019 and there were some Taco Bell restaurants that still had Spiked (Lemonade) as supplies lasted for the following months.

Description[]

Spiked (Lemonade) was, as its name implies, a lemonade flavored Mountain Dew and was yellow in color. It was similar to Lemon, Game Fuel (Lemonade), and Vibe in both flavor and color. The flavor claims to have been created with "no artificial sweeteners" and "real fruit juice".

History[]

Mountain Dew Spiked was released in 2017 under two designs. Its design in the United States featured "Spiked" under the Mountain Dew logo, while its Canadian design featured "Extra" in place of "Spiked" under the Mountain Dew logo.

Spiked (Lemonade) was released alongside Spiked (Raspberry Lemonade) in stores in 2017 in 16 ounce cans, and was also available in fountain and Freeze form at participating Taco Bell restaurant locations in the United States. However, in September 2017, the Spiked (Lemonade) Freeze was discontinued and replaced by the Strawberry Poppin' Candy Freeze in Taco Bell. It was discontinued in stores the following year along with Green Label and Spiked (Raspberry Lemonade) due to low sales. Nonetheless, Spiked (Lemonade) was still available in Taco Bell restaurant soda fountains in the United States, but it was phased out starting in December 2018 to make room for the return of Diet Baja Blast (now being called Baja Blast Zero Sugar). As a result, it would be completely removed from all Taco Bell restaurants as of March 2019.

Trivia[]

  • Spiked (Lemonade) and Spiked (Raspberry Lemonade) were originally called Mountain Dew Extra in the U.S. and was most likely the prototype name of Spike or originally meant to be a Canadian exclusive.
  • Spiked (Lemonade) and Spiked (Raspberry Lemonade) was featured on the YouTube channel myCountyMarket along with several other pre-release flavors of Mountain Dew from 2016 to 2019.
