Game Fuel (Raspberry-Citrus)

Game Fuel (Raspberry-Citrus) was a Mountain Dew Game Fuel flavor released in Fall 2012 for a limited time by Britvic as part for the Game Fuel Promotion to coincide with Halo 4 in the U.K. and Ireland. It returned for an Xbox One promotion the following year for a limited time.

Description[]

Game Fuel (Raspberry-Citrus) was a Raspberry Citrus flavor of Mountain Dew and had a red-orange look. Its color was similar to the American Game Fuel (Citrus Cherry) flavor, and it had a comparable tasting flavor to that of Voltage and Kickstart Hydrating Boost (Energizing Raspberry Citrus).

History[]

2012 release[]

On August 3, 2012, Mountain Dew UK's Facebook page revealed a teaser for some "Dewnormous News".[1] On August 8, a pixelated image was posted onto the page[2] which showcased the standard Energy and a red-colored bottle, which was speculated by fans to be a new flavour. On same day, it was confirmed that there would be a tie-in to the Halo video game franchise. On August 18, the red-colored bottle was revealed as a limited edition Citrus and Raspberry flavour titled "Game Fuel".[3] The final image, posted on 22 August, revealed that the promotion would allow fans for a chance to visit the headquarters of the game's developer, 343 Industries, as a tie-in to the then-upcoming video game Halo 4 for the Xbox 360.[4]

The drink was released to stores in September. The packaging featured Halo 4 artwork and logos, as well as codes that can be redeemed online.

The Halo 4 promotion ended on 11 December 2012, and Game Fuel was discontinued shortly afterwards.[5]

2013 release[]

On 4 September 2013, Britvic announced a new partnership with Microsoft's Xbox brand, that would offer up fans a chance to win the then-new Xbox One console every day. They also announced that Game Fuel would also return as well as part of the promotion.[6] This was soon confirmed through the Mountain Dew UK Facebook page.[7][8]

The promotion launched on 30 September, and lasted for ten weeks until the beginning of December. Following that, Game Fuel was discontinued once again.
